Steve Calem

Steve started his mortgage banking career with the Bank of Beverly Hills in Beverly Hills, California, while completing post-graduate real estate course work in Appraisal Valuation and Commercial Finance.

After moving to the East Coast, Steve was honored with the “Rookie of the Year” award at PaineWebber Mortgage (1991). He quickly rose to become Vice President of Development and Lending at several local community banks in the Maryland area. In 1997, Steve enrolled in the Masters of Business Administration program at The George Washington University, earning his MBA in 2000.

Steve’s residential and commercial construction work with The Washington Savings Bank, FSB, helped fund and develop small projects (under $2M) around the Verizon Center and N.W. Washington, DC. His work was instrumental in the renovation and revitalization of the area.

With the advent of the internet, Steve helped simplify and expedite the lending process by pioneering the online residential loan application. In 2004 Steve founded Capital Funding Group, LLC, a boutique, jumbo-loan brokerage, partnering with financial advisors and CPAs to re-engineer client mortgage programs for growing wealth, security and asset diversity.

Through the years, Steve has developed a process to identify the lowest cost to buy and own real estate. By modeling finance options over the projected ownership period, Steve can educate, empower and guide clients to customize their best financing options to save money, feel secure and build wealth over time.

Throughout his career, Steve has continued to serve families with residential needs by helping to manage clients' mortgages after closing and helping those same clients to eliminate debt and build wealth through real estate. Steve now manages a portfolio of over $1 billion in mortgages, alerting clients when they can lower interest debt or increase equity at no cost.

Steve is a certified private wealth financing specialist, a builder loan specialist and a doctor loan specialist.

“I am solution-oriented,” Steve says of the approach he takes to his work, “and I work almost entirely by referrals, which means I have to find solutions for all my clients to ensure the referral pipeline stays full.”
